Before the first day

Most of a good week happens before we lift a tool

Measure, order, protect and plan. This is what our crew does while the estimate is being read.

  • A tape measure pulled out across a wooden table

    We measure twice

Rise, width, wall and floor, written on one sheet and photographed.

  • A stack of cut plywood and boards

    We order and check

Lumber, doors, fixtures and rails come to our shop first. We look at every piece before it goes to your house.

  • A shop vacuum and a push broom on a finished floor in a room being renovated

    We protect the house

Floors masked, a dust wall at the door, and a shop vacuum on site every day.

A roll-in shower

A bathroom job, step by step

The crew is there on weekdays, in the daytime. How long each step takes depends on the slab and the tile.

  1. 01

Step 1: Mask and take out

Floors covered, water shut off with notice, old tub or stall out.

  2. 02

Step 2: Cut the slab and move the drain

A licensed plumber sets the new drain. We pour and slope the floor to it.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Blocking and walls

Wood blocking for every grab bar goes in. We photograph it for you before the wall closes.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Waterproof and test

The floor holds water for a test before any tile goes down.

  5. 05

Step 5: Tile, fixtures and bars

Seat, valve, handheld head and bars, each tested while you watch.

  6. 06

Step 6: Clean up and walk-through

We go through the finished room with you and write down anything left to fix.

A ramp

A ramp job, step by step

Concrete needs days to cure; aluminum goes up in a day or two. We tell you which one you have.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Mark and dig

We stake the run and landings and call 811 before we dig.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Footings and frame

Posts set below grade, then the frame, level and braced.

  3. 03

Step 3: Deck, rails and edges

A non-slip deck, a rail on each side and an edge guard along the drop.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Inspection and handover

If the city required a permit, the inspector comes before we call the job done.

Living in the house

While we work

Do I have to be home?

Someone should be there on the first and the last day. Other days, we only need a way in.

Where will I bathe?

We plan that at the site walk. If the house has one bathroom, we schedule the days it's out and tell you ahead.

What if you find something behind a wall?

We stop, show you a photo and write down the new scope before we go on.

Is the house safe for a wheelchair or walker during the work?

We keep a clear path from the bedroom to the bathroom and the door, and we tell you which days it changes.

Want this plan for your house?

We write it down for you after the site walk.
